Another Geneseo connection

We walked to the preschool that Geneseo pediatrician Dr. Arnold Matlin and his family have established and run. It's a tidy green concrete building in a poor part of town, designed to help needy kids learn, have better nutrition and health and give them a good head start. Parents are also part of the program. Kids who are part of the program are malnourished; the parents have to commit to being part of their child's care at the school.
There is no school now because of Christmas and New Year's but the gate was open so we went inside. A teacher, Francisca Castillon, told us 15 new children would start here next week. She was there cleaning and preparing the office and classrooms for the children. On the wall were photos of kids at desks and a giant poster they had made: "Bienvenidos Familia Matlin." The Matlins visited El Sauce in December and their proud faces smiled back at us from the wall.
Fran told us that the Matlins like people to visit the school, to see what they are doing and to be a part of it and spread the word.
I will surely do so.
